Benign Skin Lesions

WHAT ARE BENIGN SKIN LESIONS?

Benign skin lesions are noncancerous and often harmless. They can increase in size and appear in different areas of the body. Most lesions don’t need to be treated; however, they may be unpleasantly looking to the patient.

Some of these lesions are:

  • Acrochordons (Skin Tags)
  • Moles
  • Xanthelasma (cholesterol deposit on the eyelid)
  • Keratosis
  • Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

In order to determine the number of treatments, the patient will have to come to the office for a consultation. It is very likely the patient may need only one treatment; however, additional treatments are sometimes required.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

The procedure is quick, and with the use of the cooling device, pain is decreased to a very low level; in some occasions, the procedure is painless. The procedure removes layers of the irregular area by doing an ablative treatment or by decreasing the blood flow to the site so that section of the skin dies.
