WHAT ARE SURGICAL SCARS?
Scarring is possible whenever the skin is opened or damaged; in most cases, this is due to surgical incisions. A scar is a result of the body’s natural response and is mainly composed of fibrous tissue. Although surgical techniques continue to advance and most surgeons are utilizing new methods to minimize the effect of extensive scarring. In some occasions, due to the extent of the surgery and the surgeon’s overall skills, people tend to have noticeable scars. Unfortunately, some of these scars can have a negative effect on a person’s self-esteem and confidence.
HOW DOES LASER WORKS ON SURGICAL SCARS?
The patient’s scar area is anesthetized, and a cooling device will be utilized during the procedure to minimize pain. Fotona’s ablative laser is done to remove the outer layer of the skin and heats up the middle layer, stimulating new cell growth, collagen, and fiber production. As the skin starts to heal up, the area will appear smoother and tighter. Patients have the option to incorporate exosomes or platelet-rich plasma as part of their treatment if they desire to help heal the skin and give better/faster results.
HOW MANY LASER TREATMENT WOULD IT REQUIRED?
Every patient is different and multiple results would decrease or increase the number of treatments. For example, the size of the scar and the patient’s age and skin condition are fundamental factors that will help determine. In some cases, the patient would have fibrousis under the scar and other procedures may be required before the final result.
